And the role of Brazil on the world stage

Take a look at the food in the fridge and pantry. Did you know that most of these foods, especially in natura foods, are products of a history of investment and development by Brazilian agribusiness, a world reference and supplier of cultivated products to several countries?

Knowing the history of Brazilian agribusiness

The origin of agribusiness in Brazil dates back to the 1960s, specifically with the importation of Nellore cattle, a real leap forward for our livestock and agribusiness as a whole. It was also a period in which there was a great deal of development in strategic areas of the productive industry.

Agribusiness: the word “agribusiness” consists of the convergence between “agribusiness” and “business”, that is, work based on techniques with all the characteristics that large industry has.

With the beginning of the professionalization of agriculture in the country and the need for greater agricultural production in view of the demand of an ever-increasing population and per capita income, our well-known Embrapa was created.

Embrapa (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) is a company that, in the wake of this development, was created in 1972 and linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, to compose a series of investments in national agriculture, management and agrarian sciences. It plays a very relevant role on the national scene in the field of agribusiness research and development.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), by 2050, Brazil will produce 40% of the worlds food demand.

Its a lot of responsibility!

Agribusiness or Agribusiness

When we talk about agribusiness, we need to mention a term that has become very popular, used to identify the greatness of businesses that start from the field: the so-called “agribusiness”.

Agribusiness is nothing more than the set of the entire structure of Brazilian agribusiness, going far beyond the farm, its planting, its animals and the professionals who work there. Agribusiness is made up of large industry, multinationals and companies of all sizes, thousands of professionals who make up the productive chain of the rural sector. That is, the rural sector that uses the entire structure of national industry as a large production network.

This whole structure is capable of generating more than half of the wealth of Brazil, a world power in the sector.
  • Brazilian agribusiness employs more than 18 million professionals;
  • In 2019, agribusiness accounted for 21.4% of the Brazilian GDP, or BRL 1.55 trillion.
Brazil on the world stage

Agribusiness is considered an engine of the Brazilian economy. As we mentioned earlier, Brazil is a powerhouse in the production of inputs that supply a large part of the global population. To give you an idea, we are the worlds largest producer of products such as sugar, orange juice, coffee; the second largest producer of some seeds; and the third largest producer of fruits and meats.

Thanks to the strong investment of the last decades in the sector, investment in cutting-edge techniques and technology, our agriculture and livestock is prepared to develop in the most different regions and climates. In addition, it has the necessary investment to connect to environmental demands, making its agribusiness sustainable.

The environmental responsibility of the Brazilian rural producer combined with the most innovative in the field grants us what is, today, considered the most modern food production chain in the world. These are qualities capable of generating an enormous surplus to supply the world.
  • We are the fourth largest exporter of agricultural products in the world, after the European Union, USA and China;
  • In 2018, the Brazilian agribusiness surplus was US$ 87.6 billion (data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services).
Brazil and its Agriculture 4.0

One of the major factors in the development of Brazilian agribusiness, which places us at the top of the world in terms of modernization and production efficiency, is our massive technological investment.

When we talk about the Internet of Things, Industry Technology 4.0, cutting-edge artificial intelligence, among others, we are talking about trends that go far beyond domestic utilities or industry, but an important sector that also includes work in the field.

New technologies and connectivity - increasingly faster - are part of all stages of rural production, from planting, product disposal, to the final product on supermarket shelves. These are technological solutions that provide us with incomparable efficiency and productivity and place us at the top of the world.

Profills do Brasil, for example, develops Filling Machines connected with Industry 4.0 Technology, supplying machinery for industry and agribusiness in several Brazilian states and abroad.

We believe that solutions for rural and industrial producers are the path to success in an expanding market and a showcase for the world. It is also a form of social, technological, productive and competitive incentive for the country.
